Accesibility Policy and Services Statement

The Public Anthropology Conference recognizes that equal access is essential for meaningful knowledge sharing. Therefore, PAC is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants and attendees.

In collaboration with the DC Public Library’s Center for Accessibility, PAC will provide a variety of accessible physical and reflective spaces in accordance with ADA standards.

Services

  • American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters and Spanish Translation services will be available to attendees upon request.

Requests can be made during the registration process as well as by reaching out to pubanthcon@american.edu.

  • PAC strongly encourages the use of masks during this conference to keep everyone safe against certain respiratory viruses. All attendees will be provided with 2 masks for the conference weekend.

Mutual aid organizations, Mask Block DC and Clean Air Solidarity will provide free masks and air filters for this conference!

  • Light refreshments will be available both conference days followed by boxed lunch provided by La Prima Catering on Saturday 11/8. Clear signage will be displayed on the table for those with dietary restrictions along with an available PAC team member to answer any questions.

Our program will also provide a list of local D.C restaurants and cafe’s for participants to enjoy outside of the venue for lunch.

  • The Library offers a number of quiet spaces open to the public if participants and attendees need to sit, rest, and reflect. These spaces will be available to conference attendees and are located at:

    • 3rd Floor Reading Room

    • 5th Floor Patio Space

For more information on how to access these spaces, PAC team members will be available throughout the duration of the conference.

  • The MLK library has its own Center for Accessibility, which details services it routinely provides to visitors. To reach out to them directly, please contact  DCPLaccess@dc.gov
